Defleshed - Under the Blade
Metal Blade

This is yet another stab at recreating the thrash metal of the early 80s. Retro is the rage right
now and Defleshed make no secret of being influenced by Kreator, Sodom, and Destruction (whose
track "Curse the Gods" is competently covered here). Well, the guys try hard, and "Under the Blade"
is plenty fast and heavy, but at the end of the day, it's pretty average stuff.
Again, memorable songwriting is a problem. The songs sort of blur together after awhile and
you remember the albums as just one massive track. When it comes to retro-thrash, Bewitched and
Gehennah have it sewn up.
Nevertheless, you can certainly headbang to the likes of "Farewell to the Flesh",
"Metalbounded" and "Thorns of a Black Rose". If you're looking for a quick snack of raw metal,
Defleshed will fit the bill. Just don't expect filet mignon.
